YouView has named Pushbutton as a member of its Wider Advisory Group, a committee of experts set up to lend technical advice to the Freeview successor, which is due to launch next year.

These organisations are helping to shape and test the way in which content will be delivered via YouView – and the group’s diversity and expertise will help to ensure that YouView can support a potentially unlimited range of content in the future.

According to YouView the new service “brings you all the plug-in-and-watch simplicity of Freeview, plus the UK’s leading Internet catch-up and video on-demand services… For the first time, your on-screen programme guide will go backwards in time as well as forwards. You can discover and watch great programmes whenever you want – even ones you thought you’d missed.”

YouView will support HD, and a choice of pay-TV channels and on-demand programmes from TV providers such as BT Vision and Talk Talk TV.  It offers the “best bits of 21st Century TV” say YouView, things like pause live TV and PVR without subscription fees in an easy to use box.

Pushbutton customer Simon Calver, CEO of LOVEFiLM, said: “LOVEFiLM is committed to bringing its service to as many customers as possible on the broadest range of platforms, and therefore continues to follow and support YouView’s development with interest.”

Paula Byrne, Managing Director of Pushbutton said “We are delighted to offer our expertise to YouView as a member of the Wider Advisory Group. YouView is a most significant milestone in the inexorable march of TV and video content onto IPTV platforms. We anticipate interesting engagements with the platform in terms of work on behalf of our clients, in addition to our continued enthusiastic participation in the Wider Advisory Group.”

BBC iPlayer on BT Vision

Pushbutton were chosen to build the BBC’s popular video on demand service, iPlayer, to run on BT Vision. The deployment taps Pushbutton’s Microsoft Mediaroom expertise on which BT Vision’s BBC iPlayer is based.

Marc Watson, chief executive of television and online services, BT Retail, said: “We are really excited to be partnering with the BBC to bring the BBC iPlayer service to BT Vision customers. The launch of BBC iPlayer on BT Vision adds to the vast range of quality entertainment already available to our customers.

This will be the full BBC iPlayer package, offering almost all of the TV and radio programmes available online through a simple and intuitive BBC iPlayer-branded application, eventually replacing the BBC content on BT Vision’s existing 50-hour “TV Replay” package, which offers a small selection of BBC TV programmes.

Pushbutton Managing Director, Paula Byrne, said “BBC iPlayer for BT Vision is the single most prestigious third party deployment of a Microsoft Mediaroom application anywhere in the world, and Pushbutton is immensely proud of the application we have created. It is both powerful and elegant, and provides a glimpse of the IP-powered television of the future.”

Daniel Danker, BBC General Manager for Programmes and On Demand, said:  “Licence-fee payers love the option of enjoying BBC iPlayer’s high-quality experience and vast choice of programmes on the living-room TV, and we’re delighted to be able to bring the service to BT Vision.”

I have known the team at Pushbutton for many years now, and would not hesitate in recommending them. They are real experts within the field of digital interactive TV, having been involved in the industry since its infancy, and are also a pleasure to work with. They are truly focused on delivering a solution that meets the client’s needs on time and on budget, and are always willing to go the extra mile.

Treasures of the Deep

Camelot have launched a 3D game designed and built by Pushbutton called ‘Treasures of the Deep’ to join its growing portfolio of 3D ‘Instant Win’ titles. The game costs £2 to play, and offers the chance to win a £60,000 prize plus a range of smaller cash prizes and free goes.

‘Treasures of the Deep’ is a submarine-based under sea adventure. Visually delightful with sunbeams piercing the blue ocean and hitting the seabed. A particle engine was used to simulate the action of shoals of fish swimming in formation just above the ocean floor.

The aim of the game is to collect the treasure scattered in chests sitting on the seabed. The player steers the submarine by selecting flashing dots on a sonar-like treasure finding device.

Mini games associated with the main adventure, allow the chance of winning additional treasure and more air to replenish the sub’s tanks and continue the game. Collected treasure is displayed in a prize table beside the main action screen, so that players can see at all times how close they are to winning a cash prize.

Pushbutton Managing Director, Paula Byrne, said “I am extremely proud of ‘Treasures of the Deep’. It looks stunning and demonstrates how the Pushbutton team really get what works best in a prize-driven gaming environment.”
